I love to look at my oversize iris paintings in December – and every day, of course – as there is something poignant about the remembrance of one season while in the midst of another. These flowers are creatures of momentary splendor, symbols of the mystery and depth of time. We all exist in a state of ongoing, and sometimes bewildering, metamorphosis. With the whole of life too complex to grasp at once, a shift in scale can elicit awe, and allow us to comprehend things that otherwise escape us.
